About
Los Angeles based Afghan-Canadian producer, DJ & founder of Heist Mode. Fast, uncompromising techno built for tension and endurance. Operates where pressure becomes structure - programmed not to fill a slot, but to define a moment.
Barbosa is a Canadian producer, DJ, and founder of Heist Mode, known for fast, muscular stripped-back techno rooted in discipline, tension, and functional precision. His work approaches techno as a long-term cultural practice rather than a trend-driven format. Early in his career, Barbosa played a key role in the revival of North American warehouse culture through Richie Hawtin’s From Our Minds project, contributing to a platform focused on the next wave of underground artists. This foundation continues to inform his approach to sound, space, and community. A major recent milestone came with a headline SYXT North American tour, representing one of the most influential contemporary techno labels shaping modern, uncompromising club music. The tour reinforced Barbosa’s reputation as a cultural carrier capable of translating a focused techno philosophy across diverse regional scenes. In 2020, he founded Heist Mode, which has grown into an international framework connecting underground scenes across North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia through disciplined releases, long-term artist development, and physically rooted events. Barbosa’s productions receive continued support from artists including Richie Hawtin, Ben Klock, Marcel Dettman, DVS1, Luke Slater, and Speedy J, with his music played weekly at institutions such as Berghain, Tresor, Bassiani, Fabric, Fold, and beyond. His DJ sets are fast, controlled, and endurance-driven, prioritizing tension and immersion over spectacle. Barbosa is programmed not to fill a slot - but to define a moment.
